Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born into a musical family on 9 August 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel superstar Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. and the cousin of singer Dionne Warwick. When she was a kid, she sang in her New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark. At the age of she turned 15, Houston had sung professionally as a backing vocalist with her mother on Chaka Khan's 1978 song Im Every Woman. The singer went on to sing backing vocals for Lou Rawls, Jermaine & Jackson as well as her mother, and also was briefly models on the cover of Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. Her work as the vocalist featured in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several major record labels, including Arista, with which she signed in 1982 and was with them throughout the course of her career. Whitney Houston became the top-selling debut record for a new artist in the year 1985. Around this time, her drug abuse was well-documented and she began using daily until 1996.
Dana Bash (also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz) is a CNN reporter, anchorwoman as well as a political correspondent.
